Great White North Triathlon

Great White North Triathlon – Stony Plain

Great White North Triathlon

The Great White North Triathlon takes place at the Allan Beach Resort – Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada on July 3rd, 2022. The race has a long history, taking place every year since 1991, cementing it’s legendary status on the Canadian triathlon scene. The event is popular, with approximately 800 athletes hitting the water at Hubble Lake each year as they start the race. Athlete support is also excellent, with an enthusiastic 200+ volunteers making sure the day goes smoothly.

The swim is held in Hubbles Lake. Allan Beach features a large sandy area for the start and finish. We use a mass start so seed your self appropriately. This is a calm lake and the course is well marked and we will have a large contingent of lifeguards, scuba divers, and kayakers to ensure your safe completion of the first of three disciplines. Volunteers will be on hand to aid in removing wetsuits in preparation for transition on to the bike.

After you head out of Allan Beach Resort you turn right on Hwy 16 and head to Hwy 779 and turn south and head into Stony Plain. Turn right at 44th ave, turn right at 50th St, head past the pavilion and right onto parkland hwy. Take the overpass interchange onto hwy 779 and head north to the turn around 19.5km out, head back to Stony Plain and repeat the out and back. Technical support will be provided on course but make sure you have the appropriate supplies in case of mechanical issues.

The run course takes you through the town of Stony Plain and it’s trail system. You head around the pavilion pond and out on 43rd ave, turn right on 50th st and turn left on 47th ave, follow to 45th ave and then turn right and head to the trail system.  This is a three lap course.

The race is also fast. The course record for the males is a stunning 3 hours, 46 minutes and 1 second obtained by Jeff Symonds (Penticton, BC) in 2009. The female record has been around for some time, set by the legendary Heather Fuhr (San Diego) in 1993. Heather swept through the course in 4 hours, 14 minutes and 18 seconds.

Choose form a variety of race distances – Half Distance, Team Half Distance, Olympic Distance, new Sprint, new Try-A-Tri, Aquabike and Duathlon.
